An 8.5-hectare estate between Normandy meadows and the Alabaster Coast

In Hautot-sur-Mer, Le Marqueval occupies 8.5 hectares in the valley running down to the sea, 1.2 km from the coast and six kilometres from Dieppe. The grounds are laid out around three ponds, with pitches marked out by hedges, tree-lined lanes and lighting after dark. The horizon opens onto the farmland of the Pays de Caux and, further off, the line of the cliffs.

The campsite has 289 pitches, 62 of them kept for traditional camping. Rentals range from the Taos or O’Hara mobile home to the chalet facing the pond, up to a high-comfort mobile home for two fitted with a private whirlpool bath and a terrace overlooking the water. Alongside them, four accommodations of character step outside the usual register: an Indonesian bungalow with marble and lava stone basins, a bamboo cabin, the Fisherman’s Cabin on the bank of the pond and a stilted gypsy caravan.

Rated 4 stars, Le Marqueval takes care of the practical side: high-comfort sanitary blocks with access for guests with reduced mobility, a laundry, a grocery and a snack bar on site. ANCV holiday vouchers are accepted.

Local services and high-comfort sanitary blocks

Le Marqueval brings together on site what you expect from a 4-star campsite without leaving the grounds. The grocery covers day-to-day needs, the bread service puts out pastries and baguettes each morning, and the snack bar offers rotisserie, pizzas and burgers, to take away or eat on the terrace.

The bar, set beside the pools, is the evening meeting point. Barbecues remain allowed on the pitches, for those who would rather entertain at home.

On the comfort side, the sanitary blocks are described as high-comfort and have access for guests with reduced mobility. The laundry is equipped with washing machines and tumble dryers. The lanes are lit at night, the pitches supplied with electricity and water, and pets are welcome, except in the Chalet Spa.

Varengeville, Étretat and the Pays de Caux from the campsite

The Alabaster Coast begins 1.2 km away. The GR21, which follows the line of the cliffs, is reached through the valley and leads to Pourville beach and then, to the west, to Varengeville-sur-Mer, its Shamrock garden and the Gorges du Petit Ailly beach.

Dieppe, six kilometres away, offers its fishing harbour, its castle museum and a well-regarded Saturday market. Further along the coast, Veules-les-Roses, Fécamp and the Bénédictine Palace, Étretat and its cliffs all make good day trips, as does Rouen and its cathedral.
